Another great benefit in November is the plethora of great food! Hunter’s breakfasts and dinners are held all over the area, offering huge portions of home-cooked meals to fill even a Paul Bunyan appetite.

In The West forks the West Forks Fish and Game Club is sponsoring a Hunters supper Saturday, November 21st from 5pm -7pm . 50/50 drawings and The Forks Annual game Raffle will be pulled at the supper. First prize is a Remington 30/06 with three other great prizes. To buy tickets in advance or for more information, call 207.663.2119

Here in Jackman, The Jackman –Moose River Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a hunters supper Thursday November 20^th at the American Legion from 5pm-7-pm This is an annual turkey dinner with all the fixins! The cost is $6.00 for seniors and children and $8.00 for adults. Kids under 5 eat free We are not done yet!

Greenville American Legion Is having two Pancake Breakfasts. These are happening November 1 & 28th at the American Legion in downtown Greenville. Don’t know why they call it a pancake breakfast with French toast, bacon ,sausage, eggs, home fries, fresh homemade doughnuts, juice, coffee and milk .

In Dover on Sunday November 8^th there is “The Big Kahuna” of Hunter suppers. It is the annual Wild Game Dinner at the elementary school. Come try something new.

No one will go hungry this month.

Club ATV Ride

The Border Riders clubhouse is sponsoring a atv trail ride to Pittston farms this Saturday at 9am. This has been a long awaited opening in the trail system that finally came on line this summer. For those who do not want to venture out on a newly marked trail on their own or for those who would just enjoy the company of a club ride, here’s your chance.

The cost is $10.00 to Border Riders and the cost of your lunch at Pittston Farms. Yum Yum…

Annual Quilt Show New England fall tradition

Moosehead Quilters will once again be sponsoring their annual quilt show on September 5th at DKB Catering on the corners of Shaw and Pleasant Street in Greenville. The theme for this year’s event is “Tracks in the Woods.” Lots of beautiful quilts will be on display. There will also be door prizes a silent auction and a quilt raffle. Lunch will be available 11-2pm with the exhibit being open 10am-3pm

Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? We had all first timers at the Ice cream social this week. The youngest had only been married 33 years. Your never too old to try something new. Tomorrow is white water rafting! Thanks for the Pictures. Can’t wait to see the ones from Magic falls!

Annual Pig Roast for Cystic Fibrosis

Maynard’s is once again sponsoring The annual Pig Roast on September 5^th beginning at 12 noon. This fund raiser is a great family event to raise both money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. The grill starts cooking at noon with burgers and hot dogs to keep hungry guests going through the day’s events.There are lots of kids games along with tie dying, painting sun catchers, clowns and the popular Moose Caboose. other entertainment begins with a DJ, silent auctions, 50/50. raffles etc. the pig is ready for consumption by 5pm. tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 5-12. All events are located at Maynard’s in Rockwood right on the Moose River.

The Jackman-Moose River Region Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present Bucky Lewis for another 2009 event. This is Bucky’s second show this year in Jackman and those who attended talked about it for weeks. SO if you missed it in February, be sure join in the laughter this time.

This summer’s event also will be at the Hillcrest where you will be able to enjoy appetizers and refreshing spirits of your choice

Bucky Lewis’ Bio

Bucky Lewis is well-known throughout New England as an entertainer “from up north” who has one of the funniest and wittiest shows people have ever seen. “It’s a unique one-man comedy and musical comedy show that is more of an experience than a show” Lewis says.

He is known by his legion of loyal fans for his outrageous character comedy routines: the Taxi Driver, the Northern Redneck, the Chinese Bartender, the Pizza Boy, and many more. Formally educated in music – he plays guitar and sings also – his famous quick wit is what stands out, and has kept Bucky making his audiences laugh for over 25 years.

He is known for bringing people on stage for spontaneous interaction, as well as a dynamic flow which contains all aspects of comedy: stand- up, character, interaction, and music. His material is endless, and he is known to perform 3 hours straight, all while making people fall on the floor laughing.

Throughout his career he has earned money as a writer, actor, television host, lead singer and guitarist in a rock band, stand-up comedian and motivational speaker. Lewis currently helps people raise money doing fundraisers in the form of Adult Comedy Nights which fits in with his mantra: “using laughter as a weapon”. He is currently writing a book for business about ‘Using humor to increase sales in a down economy”.

He was born in Laconia, New Hampshire, to a musical family that once performed for Ronald Reagan. He resides in his native State of New Hampshire with his wife Tyra and Molly, a Brittany spaniel, on the “Funny Farm” in the Town of Antrim.

ATV Rodeo this Weekend

This annual event is held at Border riders club house and is as fun to watch as it is to participate in. This years events are a Timed obstacle course, Relay/ Drag race, Mudd pitt, Blind man’s rodeo and ATV roll. Entry fees are from free to $5.00 per event. IT’s Fair Time!!

Swowhegan State Fair begins this week. That’s a big deal if your 6 or 60. whoo whoo. cotton candy, fried dough, rides, horse pulls its all there ,the oldest continuous fair in the country. schedules and specials days are posted in the commons. I’ll be the one with the mustard splattered race tickets watching the trotters. See you there! August 13-22nd

Forest Heritage days

August 7^th & 8th begins Forest Heritage Days, a yearly celebration of the Moosehead Lake Region’s heritage and history. Some of this year’s events include area woods tours, educational forestry exhibits, Colby woodsman bus tour, craft fair, logging games and professional logger’s competition. Witness for yourself these professional loggers as they compete with their saws with great precision. Most of these events are located at the Greenville Lakers field complex.

August 13^th brings science and astronomy followed by The North Woods sky. Dr John Herrmann and Mary Capriotti will present an exciting science show using liquid nitrogen to demonstrate lowtemperatures and the temperature of our solar system. If weather permits a sky watching session will follow. There is an expected meteor shower towards the constellation Perseus .You could see 60 meteors in an hour!

Cost for this event is $3.00 for adults Children k-12 are free.

The long awaited opening of the trail to Pittston Farm is now open! This is a favorite destination during snowmobile season but has been off limits up to now for summer recreation. The trail is signed, the dining room is open and the gas pump is running. Give yourself plenty of time though, it takes awhile to get there and back. what a beautiful ride.
